Center strengths
Focused expense flow
Center’s official overview describes a card-led process. Employees swipe a CenterCard, capture receipts in the mobile app and review automatically coded details. Finance teams can route approvals by department, project, job or amount.
Real-time submission
The workflow prompts employees close to the transaction. That can reduce the gap between spend and documentation.
Configurable approvals
Center describes multi-level and multi-attribute approval rules. This is important for teams whose main problem is expense policy and month-end reconciliation.
Ramp strengths
Wider finance platform
Ramp combines corporate cards, travel and expense, bill pay, procurement, treasury and accounting automation. This can consolidate several finance workflows under one provider.
Published price tiers
Ramp listed three tiers when checked on 1 September 2026:
- Free: US$0 per user each month.
- Plus: US$15 per user each month.
- Enterprise: custom pricing.
The Free tier includes cards and several expense and payment features. Plus adds deeper automation and control. Procurement is listed as an add-on to Plus or Enterprise.
Broader automation
Ramp’s public material emphasizes automated receipt matching, policy controls, accounting workflows and spend review. Buyers should test these claims with their own card policy and accounting structure.
Where the decision changes
The project is expense management only
Center can be the cleaner shortlist when the team needs cards, receipt capture, approvals and accounting export. A focused scope can simplify rollout.
The project includes accounts payable and procurement
Ramp has the broader public product map. The suite creates value when it replaces separate systems or manual workflows.
The organization has complex approval rules
Run the same policy in both products. Include entity, department, amount, project and exception logic.
International operations matter
Ramp lists local-currency cards and reimbursements in its Enterprise tier. Confirm country coverage, funding, support and accounting behavior. Confirm Center’s current international scope in writing.
Demo script
Use one complete expense journey:
- issue a card;
- make a test transaction;
- capture a receipt;
- code the expense;
- trigger an exception;
- route two approval levels;
- export to the accounting system;
- close the reporting period.
Then test one bill and one purchase request if those workflows sit in scope.
Record employee steps, finance steps, exceptions and manual exports. The product with fewer steps is not automatically the winner. The workflow must preserve policy, accounting detail and audit evidence.
Cost model
Compare:
- per-user subscription;
- card economics;
- implementation;
- accounting integration;
- procurement or bill-pay add-ons;
- support;
- internal administration;
- systems retired;
- renewal terms.
Ramp’s Free tier can lower the entry price. A wider rollout can still create added implementation and change work. Center’s quote needs the same full-cost treatment.
Recommendation
Choose Center for a focused card and expense program. Choose Ramp when broader finance automation is part of the approved project and the suite will retire real work.
Require current quotes from both vendors. Center’s checked product overview dates from 2023, so every feature and commercial term needs current confirmation during procurement.

Sources checked
Vendor-owned pages establish current product and pricing claims. They do not prove comparative superiority. Glamdring states the source class so readers can judge each claim.
